Every Two Months
Root Maintenance Only.
This schedule is great for those with extremely curly, coily, or thicker density hair with relatively small locks. For upkeep of micro-locks, small locks, or weak root systems that need their new growth to be pulled through the base of the lock more consistently to avoid thinning and weak spots. This routine keeps your locks more evenly shaped as we have more control over how many loops and bumps form down the length. It also keeps the sectioning crisp and clean for those who prefer a cleaner look. With this routine we do suggest at least one Full Maintenance per year as needed.
** Warning: This routine doesn’t allow your lock to form naturally, which means constant maintenance will make the lock remain smaller/skinnier over time (the more you maintain, the smaller the overall size of your lock). If you happen to go off schedule, this can/may result in weak spots in the lock and could ultimately lead to breakage. It doesn’t happen to everyone, but we like to make sure everyone is aware of the issue.
Every 3-4 Months
Alternate between Root & Full Maintenance.
This is a typical maintenance schedule for most of our guests. This will keep most everyone’s locks on track at the roots and through the early processes of maturing -- but this will also keep those with thicker hair nice and tidy more consistently. This schedule tends to be the norm for anyone who may have had lock extensions installed to prevent excessive shedding, slippage, and to be sure that the extensions are maturing at similar rates to the natural lock. Those who may be making the switch from interlocking to crochet may also benefit from this schedule. By alternating your services types you’re allowing your natural lock the time it needs to shift on its own by not making your lock completely dependent on routine maintenance. This schedule will allow small bumps and kinks to form, but in some/most cases your lock will remain rather smooth. Skipping a maintenance on this routine isn’t scary and won’t hurt your locks -- you’ll just feel quite a bit messier than normal!
Twice per Year
One Root Maintenance & One Full Maintenance Yearly.
This schedule is great for those who don’t mind a bit of fuzz, loose hair, or longer roots throughout the year. Most guests that utilize this schedule have already experienced quite a bit of maturity (3+ years in -- but some people see it sooner), or they don’t mind letting things get a bit more wild and natural looking. Twice per year maintenance allows your locks to form mostly naturally while still maintaining a semi-controlled look -- it keeps your sections healthy, and your root systems strong. You’ll still want to keep up on separating the roots to prevent from lengthy times (and additional hourly charges) due to separating congo’s and root bridging during your scheduled maintenance (so please keep up on it, we can tell when you’ve done it just before you came in).
Once per Year
Full Maintenance.
Those who choose once per year maintenance sessions are generally only coming in to be sure everything is on track and that the root systems are maintaining their strength by collecting the new growth/fall-out properly. So try to think of it more as a yearly “lock checkup”. If you’re opting for this schedule, you’ll want to keep in mind that it’s going to get wild for those who aren’t at peak maturity, and for those who have extremely curly or thick hair. Separating at the roots and occasional root rubbing will be key in keeping your locks up to par while you aren’t having maintenance done.
** Warning: It’s not recommended for those with fine or thinning hair to space their maintenance out more than every 6 months -- doing so can/may result in lock shedding, thinning, or weak spots.
